Ancient Aztalan, S.A. Barrett

Bulletin of the Public Museum of Milwaukee, Volume 13

Located in Jefferson county, Wisconsin, this amazing site was discovered in 1836 and first surveyed in 1837 by N.F. Hyer who is also credited with naming the site after the legendary northern city from which the Aztecs "issued forth" and then migrated to and conquered Mexico.

Aztalan is an important archaeological site in its own right and many important finds have been made, including evidence interpreted as the practice of cannibalism.  A fascinating work and highly recommended.
