Fort Ancient The Great Prehistoric Earthwork of Warren County Ohio - Moorehead

In this publication, Moorehead presents a more refined version of his original 1898 work on Fort Ancient. "On a slightly rolling plateau in Warren County, Ohio, overlooking the beautiful valley of the Little Miami river, is situated Fort Ancient, the greatest of all prehistoric earthworks in the Mississippi basin.  This plateau is remarkable in its configuration. There is nothing precisely like it to be found in the Ohio valley, so far as the writer's observation extends. The plateau is cut up irregularly by ravines, and although none are of great length, yet all of them are precipitous and attain their depth within a few hundred yards from the beginning of their erosion ... The distance around the inclosure (following the center of the embankment) is 18,712.2 feet." (Warren K. Moorehead, 1908). This  6-1/2" x 8-1/2", 142 page, soft cover, facsimile reprint is illustrated with 41 plates - 2 of which are foldout map and diagram.  $14.95

Survey of Ohio Fluted Points

The fluted point survey undertaken by Olaf H. Prufer  of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History was conducted between 1960 and 1964 with a total of 10 small volumes produced over that period.   Fluted points were made available for the survey from both museum and private collections.  The introductions to the volumes contain a wealth of information concerning fluting, raw materials, glacial presence in Ohio, paleo encampments sites in Ohio, etc. Descriptive data for these points includes: Owner of specimen, where, when and who found the specimen, raw material type and color, length, width, thickness, number and length of fluting, basal grinding, basal nipple presence, etc.  There is also a sketch for each point and each volume has a map of Ohio counties showing the number of points from each county that were included in the survey. As many of these originals haven't survived the past 50 years we were extremely fortunate in acquiring a full set for republication.  We are indebted, again, to Larry Conrad of the Western Illinois University Archaeological Research Laboratory for his help in obtaining a complete set of the rare originals.  This 6-1/2" x 9-1/2",  soft cover, facsimile reprint contains 168 pages. $16.95
